Turkish journalist Derya Okatan, under arrest since Dec. 25, went on hunger strike in protest of her imprisonment.

Accused of being a member of a terrorist group, Okatan was detained along with 5 other journalists on Dec. 25 and arrested afterwards.

Okatan was the news coordinator of Özgür Radyo until it was closed by the government down under post-coup state of emergency in early October.

Prior to her arrest, an indictment was prepared for Okatan for takin part in “Editors-in-Chief on Watch” solidarity campaign in which several journalists acted, for a day, as a co-Editor in Chief of Özgür Gündem, another newspaper closed down under emergency rule after the government imprisoned the daily’s editors.
