At least 107 people were detained in total over their social media postings in past day, media said.

Police carried out operations in Adana, Şırnak, Mersin, İzmir, Çanakkale, Kars and Samsun provinces where at least 107 were detained from late Wednesday to early Thursday.

The suspects are either accused of criticizing Turkey’s military operation in Syria’s Afrin or of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

On Jan 22, Turkish troops entered Afrin area, which is controlled by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) extension PYD.

While most political parties in Turkey welcomed the offensive, police have detained, among others, many journalists for criticizing the operation since then.
