Dismissed from their government jobs under a post-coup emergency decree, 12 teachers were detained at two apartments in Manisa province where they were teaching students for university and high school examinations.

Manisa police carried out operations at 10 locations, among them are two apartments that were used as teaching centers, on Tuesday.

State-run Anadolu agency said 12 teachers were detained during a class while alternative media sources including Aktif Haber added that 40 students were also taken under custody as part of the same investigation.

Aktifhaber also said that the teachers established these two apartments as prep schools four months ago as they were unable to find employment elsewhere due to government pressure on employers.
