14 out of 22 Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) personnel, under custody as part of an investigation into July 15 coup probe, were arrested on August 16.

While 4 people were released pending trial, the remaining four people were freed without any charge.

More than 75,000 people in the military, judiciary, civil service and education have been detained, suspended or placed under investigation following the July 15 coup attempt, prompting fears that President Tayyip Erdogan is using the events to crack down on dissent.
