At least 36,664 investigations were launched in Turkey for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish nation and government officials in 2018, Birgun daily reported Saturday.

In 11,337 investigations, the overseeing court ordered decided non-prosecution, the daily said. At least 6,326 people, among them 104 children aged between 12-15, were targeted in such probes, the daily added.

Insulting Erdogan has been used as a common charge in Turkey that carries a sentence of between one and four years recently.
