Mehmet Ali Çelebi, a 70-year-old inmate with advanced leukemia, has been incarcerated in Ankara’s notorious Sincan prison on terror charges, according to tweeted posted by Turkish journalist Sevinç Özarslan.
Çelebi also suffers from kidney failure and thus receives daily dialysis treatment.
“70-year old Mehmet Ali Çelebi is struggling for his life in prison. He was diagnosed with leukemia 15 days ago. He previously suffered a stroke and thus unable to see and hear. He also dialysis treatment every three days,” Özarslan tweeted.
The man is reportedly charged with membership to the Gulen group, accused of masterminding a coup attempt in 2016. The group denies any involvement.
