Alaeddin Kaya, former owner of the now-closed Zaman newspaper, is in the 2090th day of his arrest on charges of constituting the “brain team” of the Gülen group, which the Turkish government accuses of masterminding a coup attempt in 2016.

The group denies any involvement.

He was sentenced to life in prison in 2018.

According to the Tutuklu Hastalar Twitter account, the 72-year-old man has been in solitary confinement in Ankara’s Sincan prison for months. He suffers from a series of advanced diseases, including kidney failure, hypertension, and cardiac dysrhythmia.
