The Turkish Telecommunications Authority (BTK) has banned access to two online news outlets, The Region and the JinNews over security concerns.
“On the 22nd of January 2018, the Information Technologies and Communications Authority of Turkey officially blocked local access to The Region amid the Afrin attack,” an article on the Region said Thursday.
Underlining that the Turkish government has long been suppressing the journalists and media industry, the Region said: “We must say that we are honoured to disturb the world’s worst jailer of journalists.”
The news outlet is reported to have been blocked over its critical coverage of the Turkish military’s recent offensive in Syria’s Afrin city.
Meanwhile, BTK banned Jinnews to local Internet readers on Jan 23 due to its reports over Turkish intelligence agency’s alleged role in the assassination of the four Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) executives in Paris in 2013.
