Police detained Turkish poet Rıfat Sayar over his alleged ties to Fethullah Gülen, in the western province of Denizli.
Denizli police raided a hotel in Karahayıt neighborhood where Sayar was staying, early on Sunday.
An arrest warrant had earlier been issued for Sayar.
The move came as the latest in a massive purge against intellectuals who were taken into custody as part of investigations following the July 15 coup attempt.
In a separate incident, Istanbul police detained the daughter of Turkish poet and writer, Ahmet Özer as it failed to arrest the father.
Nearly 30,000 people including judges, prosecutors, journalists and writers have been detained with 15,000 arrested since July 15 coup attempt for which Turkish government accuses Fethullah Gülen although he denies any involvement.
