Detention warrants were issued for 177 former and on-duty police officers as part of an investigation into the Gülen movement, which the government accuses of a July 15 coup attempt on Thursday.

The suspects included several police officers who were dismissed from their positions as part of administrative investigations.

Turkey has already detained over 89,700 people and arrested more than 43,800 over alleged or real links to the movement.

Gülen movement denies involvement in the coup attempt.
