Safranbolu Chief Prosecutor Alper Zeki Gürel, who was taken into custody on charges of using ByLock, a smart phone application that authorities believe is a communication tool between members of the Gülen movement, was photographed in tears on his way to the police station for interrogation.
According to the Diken news portal, Gürel was recently dismissed from his job by the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) over alleged Gülen links.
A group of police officers detained the prosecutor early on Thursday as part of an investigation into the movement.
Photos taken at the entrance of the Safranbolu police station showed that Gürel hugged his father, İbrahim Gürel, and burst into tears. Gürel cried for several minutes and was then forcibly taken into the building.
