Deputy governor of Turkey’s eastern province of Iğdır, Mevlüt Özmen was detained on his way to his own wedding in Kırklareli, as part of an investigation into Gulen Movement, on Wednesday.

While the government accuses of the movement of heading the July 15 failed coup attempt, the movement strongly denies involvement.

Police detained Özmen while he was on the way to henna night, a traditional part of Turkish wedding celebrations during which the bride’s hands are colored with reddish, temporary tattoos.

Özmen reported to be known for his support to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as the cover photo of his Facebook account features the combined collage of Erdoğan and Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkish Republic.
