Detention warrants were issued for 271 people as part of an investigation into the Gulen movement’s alleged network within the army on Friday.

The Istanbul-based investigation targets 120 former military academy students who were removed from their schools following the July 15, 2016 failed coup; 122 active military officers; and 29 others who were earlier dismissed from their posts within the army.

Police carried out raids in 48 provinces and detained 162 of the suspects, Hurriyet reported Friday afternoon.

Turkish government accuses Gulen group of masterminding the July 15, 2016 failed coup while the latter denies involvement.

More than 150,000 people have passed through police custody while 90,000 of them were remanded in prison since the summer of 2016. Apart from imprisonments, over 150,000 people have lost their jobs.
