Detention warrants were issued for 20 people as part of an Erzincan-based investigation into the Gulen movement followers on Thursday.

18 academics, of whom 4 were earlier removed from their jobs as part of the government’s post-coup crackdown, a pharmacist and a public employee are suspects in the probe.

Anadolu news agency said 15 of the suspects were detained at the time of writing while police were seeking the remaining.

Turkish government accuses the Gulen movement of masterminding the July 15, 2016 coup attempt and calls it FETO, short for the alleged Fethullahist Terrorist Organization, while the latter denies involvement.

More than 511,000 people have been detained over alleged Gulen ties since the summer of 2016.
