Mehmet Güzel, a lawyer and the former president of the Erzurum Bar Association, was sentenced to 13 years in jail over his ties to the Gülen movement, on Oct 10.

During the final hearing of a trial against the movement, an Erzurum court handed down 13 years of prison sentence to Güzel.

Along with Güzel, two teachers, earlier dismissed from their jobs over Gülen links and known as B.C. and H.A., were sentenced to 15 years in jail.

The trio were jailed on accusations of establishing and leading a terrorist organization.

The government considers the movement as a terrorist organization and blames it for the July 15, 2016 failed coup while the latter denies such accusation.
