The Golden Child Reading Hall, an Adana-based private reading center that was closed by the government as part of an investigation into the Gülen movement was caught on fire as the building has long been occupied by unknown junkies.

Fire erupted on the top floor of the four-storey building shortly after two people left it on Saturday, according to witnesses.

While firefighters managed to put out the fire before it spread to other floors, an investigation was launched into the arson allegations.

Turkish government has shuttered 1,284 schools, 800 dormitories, 15 universities, 54 hospitals, 1,125 associations and 560 foundations as part of its post-coup probes.

Media earlier reported that private dormitories in many provinces have also become home to junkies and were ransacked by unknown thugs on multiple occasions.
