On July 24, Amnesty International published a press release stating that it “has gathered credible evidence that detainees in Turkey are being subjected to beatings and torture, including rape, in official and unofficial detention centers across the country.”

Turkish officials denied the allegations in the report. The Justice Minister announced that “No individual was tortured or mistreated during or after their detention.”

After announcing that we would publish any human rights abuse that our followers have been subject to or have witnessed, we received many evidence of torture and ill-treatment of detainees.

A detailed verification process has been performed and we now feel confident to publish photos that have been successfully authenticated.

We are against torture in all forms whomever it is toward whether it be soldiers, bureaucrats, or civilians. These pictures clearly prove that torture has returned to Turkish prisons. Thousands of businessmen, teachers, and civilians have been detained, and their whereabouts are unknown. We are concerned that they are being kept under harsh conditions and tortured. A high school teacher, Gokhan Acikkol, has recently lost his life after 13 days of police custody.
