Mehmet Filiz, a Turkish businessman who was sentenced to 11 years in prison over Gulen links, was released from prison for a day to attend his mother’s funeral in handcuffs.
Mr. Filiz has been held in prison for over three years. In April 2019, he was given a prison sentence of eleven years, three months over his alleged links to Turkey’s Gülen group, which is accused of masterminding a coup attempt in July 2016.
The group denies any involvement.
Filiz’s mother, Emine Filiz (80) was laid to rest on Friday in her hometown of Kayseri.
