Journalist Nurcan Baysal has been taken into police custody over her social media posts criticizing the Turkish military operation in the Afrin region of Syria.
“My client was detained at around 00:10 after police broke into her home in Diyarbakir. She is being held at police’s anti-terror department. I spoke to her this morning. The reason was her posts on Afrin. We’ll talk with the prosecutor during the day,” her client Reyhan Baydemir told T24, an online news platform Baysal writes columns at.
Turkish troops entered Afrin area, which is controlled by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) extension PYD on Sunday.
Baysal tweeted Sunday that she is against “the war,” asking what she calls fascists not to follow her on Twitter.
