Kurdish singer Hozan Cane was detained on her way back from pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party’s (HDP) election campaign in Edirne’s Enez district.

The 47-year-old singer who has also German citizenship was stopped by police near downtown Edirne on Saturday. Media reported that she was detained on accusations of making terror propaganda with her social media postings. Cane was awaiting prosecutor’s questioning at the time of writing.

Turkey is scheduled to hold snap elections on June 24 in which Kurdish minority’s votes are expected to play an influential role.
