Leading Kurdish folk singer Ferhat Tunc said Monday that he has left Turkey due to government pressure.

“They (authorities) were not satisfied with the prison sentence; they started several new investigations and criminal cases against me with the claims of ‘making propaganda of (terrorist) organisation’ and ‘membership of organisation’ and they continue filing news cases. On top of it, they pointed me as a target,” Tunc said on Twitter, according to Ahval online news portal.

He elaborated in a speech that he will be living in Germany for a while.

In September, 2018, Tunç was sentenced to one year, 11 months and 12 days in prison for disseminating the propaganda of a terrorist organization by means of social media messages.

He faces longer prison terms in separate-yet-similar cases.
