A Manisa-based lawyer was remanded in prison on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a charge that carries a sentence of between one and four years, media reported Thursday.

Detained at his home and subsequently put in pre-trial detention by a Turgutlu court, the lawyer, identified with his initials M.D., is accused of insulting Erdogan with his social media postings.

At least 36,664 investigations were launched in Turkey for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish nation and government officials in 2018, Birgun daily reported earlier.
