Ufuk Sen health workers’ union’s local representative in Kirsehir was sentenced to 12 years in prison, state-run Anadolu news agency said Monday.
Ufuk Sen was earlier closed down over its links to the Gulen movement.
A medical worker and the union’s local representative in Kirsehir province, identified only by his initials M.S., said he is being tried over his union-related activities, asking for release.
Kirsehir is a small central Anatolian province with a population of 235,000 people that ranks it 69th most crowded city out of 81 cities by 2017 data.
In pre-trial detention for some time, M.S. was convicted of membership to an armed terror group and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Turkihs government blames the Gulenists for the July 15, 2016 failed coup and considers it a terror group while the latter denies involvement and any terrorist activities.
Critics say people should not be considered “guilty by association” let alone the fact that the movement has yet to be convicted as a result of fair trial.
