An Eskisehir man who works as a motorcycle courier was remanded in prison on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a charge that carries a sentence of between one and four years, media reported Monday.

Detained at his home and subsequently put in pre-trial detention by an Eskisehir court, the 44-year-old man is accused of insulting Erdogan in his four social media postings.

The number of investigations launched on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was 20,539 in 2017, Bilgi University Professor Yaman Akdeniz told media earlier. 6,033 of such investigations made it to the courts last year, Akdeniz added.
