A nurse was detained near Turkey-Greece border where he was reportedly on his way to escape the country as asylum seeker.

Media reported Apr 24 that police carried out a search on a parked car nearby a highway in Edirne’s Kesan district upon a complained and detained the nurse, identified as H.K., along with 3 people who are suspected of having aided the illegal crossing attempt.

H.K. as well as one of the remaining three were put in pretrial detention while the rest was released on judicial control, media said.

H.K. had an outstanding arrest warrant over his alleged ties to the Gulen movement, according to media.

Thousands of people have fled Turkey due to a massive witch-hunt launched by the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government against all kinds of opposition.

More than 510,000 people have been detained and some 100,000 including academics, judges, doctors, teachers, lawyers, students, policemen and many from different backgrounds have been put in pre-trial detention since last summer.
