Yavuz Selim Burgu, a math teacher who suffers from paralysis of the upper half of his body, including his right arm and hand, has been held in Kayseri prison since April 2017 over alleged links to the Gülen group.
Burgu reportedly has 54 percent disability rating. In 2018, he was sentenced to 8 years 9 months in prison on charges of membership in a terrorist organization due to her alleged links to the Gülen group
According to Journalist Sevinç Özarslan, Burgu has recently undergone a kidney surgery. Following the surgery, he was reportedly sent back to prison.
Turkish government accuses Gulenists of masterminding the July 15, 2016 failed coup while the group denies involvement. Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said at least 510,000 people have been detained over Gulen links since the summer of 2016.
