Turkish riot police used force to disperse a group of university students who held a commemoration ceremony for a slain leftist student at İstanbul University’s Beyazıt campus on Friday.
According to the artıgercek news portal, riot police intervened with shields and detained seventeen of the attendees.
Some students were injured in the fray.
Önder Balat, a student at İstanbul university’s faculty of law, was shot to death in 2004 at İstanbul’s famed İstiklal avenue. Balat was known for his leftist and anti-government stance.
