Dilan Dirayet Taşdemir, a deputy from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), was detained by police on Monday in Ağrı’s Doğubeyazıt district in eastern Turkey.
According to a statement released by the HDP, palice raided Taşdemir’s house in wee hours of Monday morning. “We don’t accept it, we don’t bow our heads and we don’t remain silent,” the statement said.
Turkey has stepped up political pressure on Kurdish politicians in recent months. Dozens of Kurdish politicians including 13 HDP deputies have been arrested on terror charges, while trustees have been appointed to the management of scores of municipalities run by pro-Kurdish mayors.
