A police officer in Karabük, who had previously been suspended from his job due to alleged links to the Gülen movement, committed suicide with his service revolver on Monday.

Zeki Cezayirlioğlu, a police officer of 23 years, was initially suspended by the Interior Ministry with a gov’t decree issued in Nov, 2016. Even though he was later returned to his post, Cezayirlioğlu attempted to commit suicide by ingesting agricultural chemicals last week.

He was immediately taken to a hospital by his family members and survived.

The officer attempted to commit suicide for a second time on Monday when he used his service revolver to end his own life.

He was reportedly taken to Karabük Teaching and Research Hospital but did not survive.
