A total of 106 courthouse staff were detained early Aug 15 in Istanbul as part of operations into the coup attempt of July 15 that failed to overthrow the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government.
Counter-terrorism police raided on Monday the Çağlayan, Gaziosmanpaşa and Bakırköy courthouses in İstanbul, and rounded up people, which included lawyers and attending court clerks. Detention warrants were issued for 173 personnel; yet police were only able to reach 106 of them, on Monday.
The suspects were brought to the police department for interrogation, a security source said on condition of anonymity.
The suspects’ home addresses were also searched and computers and documents were seized, the source added.
