A Nigde man who was left unemployed as part of the government’s post-coup crackdown has died following an explosion at a fireworks factory, according to media.
Dogan news agency said an explosion at a fireworks plant in Nigde’s Kemerhisar neighborhood killed two workers while injuring several others on Saturday.
Aktifhaber said one of the victims, identified as Ilyas Unlu, had started working at the factory after he was left unemployed due to the government’s post-coup crackdown.
Unlu worked as an officer at the Sungurbey college until the school like 3,000 other education institutions was shuttered with a post-coup emergency decree.
More than 150,000 people have lost their jobs since the failed coup on July 15, 2016, as part of a government crackdown.
Media reported several cases that dismissed or suspended public servants died of job accidents at hard-labor positions.
