A public prosecutor, named Osman Yarbaş, was busted with 25 kg of heroin in Adana province.
According to the Turkish media, he was in control of a sizable network of people involved in the illegal drug trade between Adana and Konya provinces. His cartel reportedly includes at least 25 police officers and tens of other civilians.
Yarbaş was appointed as a public prosecutor in Adana in the aftermath of a coup attempt in 2016, and was responsible for instigating prosecution against hundreds of individuals accused of having links to the Gulen group.
The group is accused by the government of masterminding a coup attempt in 2016. It denies any involvement.
