Pro-government political science professor Atilla Yayla has been dismissed from Istanbul-based Halic University, he tweeted Tuesday.
“I lost the case after the Supreme Court of Appeals upheld the labor court’s decision green-lighting my illegal and unfair suspension from the Halic University. The Appeals court also ordered me to pay for the other side’s lawyer fees. Halic University started proceedings for the legal expenses. What were we talking about?” Yayla tweeted.
Yayla’s tweet drew ire from many twitter users, many of whom questioned Yayla’s alleged lack of criticism in the face of an ever-growing crackdown against academics. Thousands of academics were removed from their jobs as part of the Turkish government’s post-coup witch-hunt since the July 15, 2016 failed coup.
