Mehmet Özen, a 37-year-old purge victim Turkish man, has dies almost two weeks after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage in Burdur prison, journalist Sevinç Özaslan reported.

According to the report, Özkan had a cerebral hemorrhage (bleeding in the brain) on July 25 at the Burdur E Type Prison. He was eventually released from prison on July 30 due to deteriorating health condition. After spending five days in an intensive care unit at the Burdur state hospital, Özen passed away early on June 4.

He was reportedly dismissed from his job with a decree issued by the Turkish government in the aftermath of a coup attempt in 2016. He was later sentenced to 9 years in prison over alleged links to the Gulen group, which the government accuses of masterminding the attempt. The group denies any involvement.

Özen was in the 19th month of his imprisonment.
