Fırat Mercan, a Turkish citizen who has been held in İstanbul’s notorious Silivri Prison for 2 years over alleged terror charges, has been denied release from prison in his second appearance before a parole board.

Mercan is a chronic kidney patient and he has contracted Covid-19 in prison.

The purge-victim man is accused of having membership in the Gulen group, which the Turkish government accuses of masterminding a coup attempt on July 15, 2016. The group denies any involvement.
