The mother of one of the soldiers who were jailed on coup charges in the aftermath of a military coup in July 2016, has called for help from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, saying that her 19-year-old son was in the 20th day of his mandatory military service on the night of the failed attempt and was given 7 aggravated life sentences.

“My son is not even a secondary school graduate. I can’t even breathe when I think of my son. I am asking for help from our president. He is a father. He has kids. He knows how I feel. The grief of losing a child is a very horrible thing. I sent my kid to [complete his mandatory] military service. Not to Silivri [prison],” said the woman in tears.

She is reportedly the mother of Emirhan Doğancılı, a Turkish citizen who was in the 20th day of his mandatory military service on the night of the coup attempt in 2016. Emirhan is in the 3rd year of his arrest in İstanbul’s Silivri prison. Despite being a new recruit soldier, he was given 7 aggravated life sentences for “attempting to overthrow the Turkish gov’t.”
