Murat Sadıç, a nuclear cardiology professor who reportedly spent over a year in a Turkish prison in 2017 over alleged coup charges, has been invited to the United States due to his “promising coronavirus vaccine research” in Germany.
According to the Bold Medya news portal, Sadıç was fired from his job with a government decree in the aftermath of a failed coup attempt in 2016 and subseguently jailed over alleged links to Turkey’s Gulen group.
The group is accused by the Turkish gov’t of masterminding the coup attempt.
After spending more than one year in a prison in Amasya province, Sadıç reportedly fled Turkey to seek asylum in Germany in late 2017. The professor has recently been invited to the Harvard University’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) as part of the fight against coronavirus pandemic in the country.
