Newly emerged video footage shows the moment two police officers battered two İzmir women who asked for help from them about a harassment incident late on Friday.

Claiming that they were sexually harassed by two youngsters with motorbikes, women, identified with initials D. and S., reportedly asked for help from the two police officers.

However, a brawl erupted between the two sides, and, according to a surveillance footage, the two women were battered by the officers who reportedly accused them of dressing up “inconveniently”.

The two women filed a complaint about the officers and told Turkish media on Saturday that they

“We wanted to help from them because we could not see license plates of motorbikes which harassed us. But police officers said that harassers did it right, saying that we dressed inconvenient,” woman told Turkish media.
According to a statement released by İzmir police department on Saturday, an investigation has been launched into the incident.

“As soon as we was informed about the incident, we started an investigation about our staff. Police department is an organization that attaches importance to relations with the people. If our staff has a fault, legal sanctions will be implemented about them. Every aspect of the incident are investigated for revealing the truth. The investigation was started right away,” Hüseyin Aşkın said.
