Prominent Turkish journalist Mustafa Ünal, under arrest since July 30, was infected with herpes zoster, yet he is not allowed to get medicine, according to his son.

Former Ankara representative of now-defunct Zaman newspaper got infected with shingles late last month and asked for prison management to see a doctor, his son tweeted on Wednesday.

His request was not responded for 6 days, Ünal’s child said.

“Only after 6 days, doctor examined him. Now, the medicine his doctor prescribed has not made it into the prison,” son’s tweet read.

Worked as a journalist for 28 years, Ünal was arrested as part of an investigation into the Gülen movement, which the government accused of masterminding the July 15 coup attempt and shuttered hundreds of institutions including Zaman newspaper over links to it.

Turkey currently keeps 143 journalists under arrest, leading the whole word in this regard.
