A Şırnak court has ruled for the arrest of Yannis Vasilis Yaylalı, a peace activist and conscientious objector, for “insulting” President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and “disseminating terrorist propaganda” for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

According to the Cumhuriyet daily, Yaylalı was sent to Şırnak prison upon a ruling by Şırnak Penal Court of Peace on Sunday.

Yaylalı previously came to public attention with peaceful protests he organized after the Turkish military jets “mistakenly” bombed 34 Kurdish villagers from Roboski district on Dec. 28, 2011. The initial statements claimed that the villagers were thought to be terrorists traveling along the Iraqi-Turkish border.

Six years into the investigation, no concrete findings have been presented to the public on the details of the Uludere incident.
