At least six students were detained by Istanbul police during a demonstration held to protest the government’s post-coup purge of academics on Thursday.
Some 150 people, mostly students, gathered near the Istanbul University’s Beyazıt campus and chanted slogans against the latest government decree that has left 330 more academics unemployed as part of post-coup witch hunt.
Having read a press statement about the issue, the group was intervened by police after it tried to enter the university.
Six students were rounded up amid tumult and taken to Beyazıt police station.
At least 7,316 academics have lost their jobs over their alleged ties to the coup plotters since July 15.
