27 Year-old H.A.K. was sentenced to 2 years and four months in prison for arguing on his Facebook account that the July 15 coup attempt was a hoax staged by the government.

Zonguldak-based H. A. K. was detained on July 19 after he reportedly wrote on his Facebook page that the coup attempt had been staged by the government. According to media reports, he was also found to have insulted the president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Held under arrest for 5 months, H. A. K. was given 2 years and four months of prison sentence as he was accused of making propaganda on behalf of a terrorist organization.

Turkish government pinned the blame for the July 15 coup attempt on the Gulen movement while the latter has denied any involvement. The government calls the movement as a terrorist organization.

While the court, considering the term H.A.K. served under arrest, released him, he said he has no ties to the movement during, his hearing on Dec. 8.
