Suspended from his post as part of an investigation into the Gülen movement, police officer, identified with initials M.Ö., has been detained while he was on his way to escape Turkey to Georgia.

According to state-run Anadolu Agency on Sunday, M.Ö. was taken to Tokat police headquarters after being detained on Sarp border gate.

More than 130,000 people have lost their jobs since the July 15 coup attempt, for which the government accuses the movement.

While many of those purged were later arrested over alleged membership to the movement, hundreds were detained near borders with neighbouring countries before they get out of Turkey.
