National gymnast and a former finalist of Turkey’s popular talent show, Yetenek Sizsiniz has joined the ranks of people detained as part of investigation into July 15 coup bid probe.
A Turkish court issued detention warrants for 100 academics and university personnel in Kayseri, Ankara and Tokat provinces.
Hakan Akdoğan, a former finalist of Yetenek Sizsiniz, is among 48 names put under custody in the operation as of August 17. The 34-year-old gymnast has been working as a physical education lecturer at Kayseri’s Erciyes University.
Turkey has detained 40,029 people with 20,355 of them arrested since July 15 coup attempt which killed some 240 people. In his initial remarks, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the attempt was a gift from God the cleans the alleged network of the faith-based Gulen Movement from within state institutions.
