A theater play performed by Duygu Şahlar, a teacher who was removed from her job as part of the government’s post-coup crackdown, was banned in 5 districts of the western province of Mugla.

District governors of Milas, Datça, Marmaris, Fethiye and Bodrum said: “…the staging of the theater play, Bi’şey Anlatıcam (I am gonna tell you something) was considered inappropriate since its performer Duygu Şahlar was removed from her job for being a member of a terror group.”

In Milas, the play was originally planned to be staged at the municipality building on Dec 20.

Şahlar defied the restrictions and performed it at alternative venues, according to a Facebook page named after the title.

Şahlar was purged from job over her alleged links to the Gulen movement, which the government accuses of masterminding the July 15, 2016 coup attempt. The group denies involvement.
