Turkey’s popular TV wedding programs were banned as a result of a government decree issued under post-coup emergency rules on Saturday.

“In radio and television broadcasting services, such programs in which people are introduced to find a friend. … cannot be permitted,” many international news outlets had wide coverage of this particular decree.

The Turkish government issued two state of emergency decrees, No. 689 and 690, on Apr 29.

While 3,974 people were dismissed from state institutions, 18 foundations, 14 associations along with 13 health institutions were shuttered.
