Two distributors of Turkey’s only Kurdish-language daily, Azadiya Welat was arrested, bringing up the total number of journalists jailed to 117, on Tuesday.

Police stormed the Diyarbakır office of the daily and detained 11 distributors among others. While nine of them were released, Arap Turan and Ferit Toprak were arrested over their alleged membership to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

According to journalism platform P24, the total number of journalists currently under arrest has risen up to 117 with the recent arrests. Nearly half of the jailed journalists were arrested after the July 15 failed coup attempt.
