Veli Büyükşahin and Veli Haydar Güleç, the two journalists from the now-defunct TV 10 television channel were put in pretrial detention on Thursday.

TV10 is one of at least 180 media outlets the government shut down in the aftermath of the July 15, 2016 coup attempt.

Detained on accusations of membership to a terror group, the pair spent some 10 days under police custody along with a few dozen people including some local members of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).

An Istanbul court ruled for the arrest of the journalists and 13 others while releasing the remaining on judicial control.

Turkey has jailed at least 319 journalists since a failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016 with some of them later released or cleared of charges.
