A huge cleansing of Turkey’s state and other institutions is continuing as people from all walks of life find themselves being hunted down and taken into custody.

At least 74 people were arrested, while 198 others were detained over the past 48 hours, according to Turkish news agencies.

Police carried out the operations in at least 15 provinces across Turkey. With most of the arrestees being academics, those arrested over the past day also included civil servants, police officers, lawyers and businessmen.

Early on Friday, Turkish police detained 51 academics out of 87 at İstanbul University for whom warrants were issued over links to the Gülen movement.

Central Party (Merkez Parti) Chairman professor Abdurrahim Karslı was also on the detention list.
