The assets of former main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Aykan Erdemir were seized by the Turkish government, the Hürriyet daily reported on Wednesday.

The decision was made on the grounds that he allegedly provided “fake reports” as evidence against Turkish-Iranian businessman Reza Zarrab in an ongoing legal case in New York.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on Nov. 28 issued an arrest warrant for Erdemir.

He is being investigated for “destroying paperwork relating to state security” and “stoling documents with the intention of using them abroad along with certified public auditor Osman Zeki Canıtez.”
